<text>On June 8, 2020, 6-year-old Alyssa McClelland’s first book was published. My Big Curly Fro helped her express her emotions after being teased at school for her hair, and educates others about cultural and personal identification, low self-esteem, how to overcome insecurities, and how to create strong and meaningful friendships.

Alyssa is one of a long list of child authors, including Amanda Gorman (America’s first National Youth Poet Laureate), Ally Sheedy (She Was Nice to Mice), and Christopher Paolini (Eragon). But the list goes beyond famous or best-selling writers. Schools have many examples of books produced by students or classes, such as Where the Mountains Meet the Plains: The Cimarron Country Past and Present, written by the 4th grade class at the Cimarron Elementary School in New Mexico.</text>

This collection of more than a dozen pieces showcases the young Capote developing the unique voice and sensibility that would make him one of the 20th century's most original writers. </text>
